Thanks to anyone who got input on the subject Boulder Dash - It is indeed one of the most addictive games for the C64 AND a true classic!! I would be surprised if nobody got lots of trivia and knowledge regarding the game(s).Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse: A Haven for Tea Lovers That's a topic for a master thesis on it's ownĪnother thing about US and early versions of Boulder Dash The EA release (Super Boulder Dash) - why did they re-release the game in US when it was already released there by First Star Software in the first place? Was it because EA's release was a compilation of I and II? Was it a budget release? To get a different segment of the games market? I believe this version was the one aimed for sale outside Scandinavia - to the rest of Europe.ĭoes anyone know if Professional Boulder Dash III was exported to the US and sold there? If so by whom and under which name was it sold? American imports often seemed to go through a name change - repacking and change of artwork. Datasofts Zorro and Goonies.Īmerican Action released a second version of Boulder Dash III (In a double cassette case). Like their Spy vs Spy II version, which says it can't be sold outside of Scandinavia. Perhaps this has been common knowledge to others for some time - but it was all news to me until recently (upon getting the original game).Īmerican Action had it's own made games ( Captured, Soldier One, 1943 the year after, etc.) but they were also known for importing some great American titles to the Scandinavian market. First Star didn't bring anything new the table for this game though - it's the result of American Actions efforts. One could call it a " joint-production" between the two companies, since most of the original game-engine is likely the same as in BD1 and 2. It was news to me that Boulder Dash III was a Swedish made game - and not an official First Star Software release. On the backside it states that Boulder Dash I, II and Rockford are trademarks of First Star Software (which is common knowledge really), BUT it further says that Professional Boulder Dash III AND MetalGrafik are trademarks of American Action AB. It got 16 new scenarios, new caves, new monsters, new obstacles and MetalGrafik. The game is called " Professional Boulder Dash III". Does anyone knows if the American Action version of Boulderdash III is THE original release of this game, that it was also made by American Action? This is the one with the space-theme look, where Rockford is in a space suit Funny twist to the game.
